Deep Tissue - Sports Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage that is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. This type of massage is helpful for chronic and tense areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness and sore shoulders. Using specific strokes, a Deep Tissue Massage is both powerful and vigorous to get into the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as in Swedish Full Body Massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions."). This type of Massage is also known as a Sports Massage.
Sports Massage uses the same techniques and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance. It does this by draining away toxins, helping to reducing swelling and muscle tension, improving flexibility and reducing the risk of sustaining injuries.
Regular treatments can help break down scar tissue, remove the build-up of toxins, improve mobility and reduce the risk of further injury.
Will A Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?
It shouldn't hurt, but it's likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish Full Body Massage. The Therapist will always ask you if the pressure is ok for you BUT you should always feel free to speak to the therapist if the pressure is too much for you.
Unlike Swedish massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage can help with specific problem, such as:
Headaches caused by muscular tension
Frozen shoulder
Recovery from injuries
Pulled muscles
Postural problems
Muscle tension or spasm
Treatments can last for 30, 60, or 90 Minutes and can include parts or the whole of the body. The massage is performed with Almond Oil on a professional massage table. The client can decide if they want to be draped with towels or un-draped.
Treatment Prices:
60 minute Deep Tissue Full Body Massage: £40
90 minute Deep Tissue Full Body Massage: £60

Pregnancy Massage
Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. The gentle, noninvasive approach of prenatal massage can ease discomfort associated with pregnancy, help the mother-to-be prepare for labor and give her nurturing emotional support.
Benefits for the body and mind
The benefits of prenatal massage include a wide range of physiological, emotional and psychological benefits.
Alleviates stress on weight-bearing joints and musculo-fascial structures
Assists in remedying many of the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy: muscular discomforts, lower-back pain, upper-back pain, headaches, leg cramps, sciatica, stiffness, tension and knots, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, heartburn and acid re-flux, fatigue, varicose veins, nasal congestion, shortness of breath, edema of the lower extremities, neck pain, inter-scapular pain, sacroiliac and hip joint pain and constipation
Increases blood circulation, which provides more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and fetus and stimulates the lymph system, thereby increasing immunity and removal of toxins
Stabilizes hormonal levels and helps relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes
Soothes and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphin's into the mother's body. As a result, the expectant mother feels more relaxed and at ease, and will also sleep more easily and more deeply
Assists in maintaining good posture and adjusting to a changing alignment caused by the baby's increasing weight. Massage increases muscle tone and flexibility, enhancing the ability to carry this extra weight while also relieving aches and pains, leg cramps and muscle spasms
Eases the load on the heart and helps keep blood pressure in check
Enhances the pliability of skin and underlying tissues
Supports the return of blood to the heart and increases blood flow to the uterus and placenta. With the enormous demands placed on the circulatory system during pregnancy, blood volume may increase up to 60 percent compared to pre-pregnancy levels. As pregnancy progresses and the uterus enlarges and presses deep into the pelvic bowl, venous return to the heart is hampered
Prepares the mother-to-be for an easier delivery with its sedating effect on the nervous system, promoting relaxation and stress relief
Offers a natural, safe, drug-free alternative choice for pain relief, since taking medications are often limited during a pregnancy for the sake of the unborn child
In addition to the physical benefits, prenatal massage provides expecting women with the emotional support and nurturing touch provided by nonsexual human touch and energy.
Positioned for comfort
Prenatal massage can be performed by
Having an expectant woman lie on her back or side, propped up with pillows;
Utilizing specially designed maternity cushioning systems, which allow the expectant mother to lie on her stomach, supported by the cushions; or
Positioning the mother-to-be in a semi-reclining position propped up by pillows.
By using a forward facing massage chair.

Indian Head Massage
What is Indian head massage?
Indian head massage is a relaxing holistic therapy that balances the mind, body & spirit and promotes health and well-being.
The traditional art of Indian head massage is based on the ancient system of medicine know as Ayurveda and has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years. Indian head massage uses acupressure massage specifically on the area surrounding the head, scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper back. This treatment was originally used to improve scalp and hair condition. It is a deep massage, using a variety of pressure and techniques, including circular massage strokes on your scalp, deep tissue work on your shoulders, and stretching the neck.
What is Indian head massage good for?
An Indian head massage will relax you and can make you feel detached and serene, leaving you sighing and wordless, but also alert and clear-headed, alleviating brain-fog and stress.
This massage treatment offers all kinds of other benefits. It relieves aches, pains & tension in your neck, back and shoulders, improve the texture of your hair and encourages it to grow. An Indian head massage also stimulates the flow of blood and oxygen in your upper body, and therefore clear your sinuses, relieve stress and help you to sleep better. It is also beneficial to help cure headaches (even migraine), eye strain and anxiety, some say an Indian head massage can help you to concentrate better at work.
What are the benefits?
Physiological Benefits:
Circulatory System - improves the blood supply to every part of the body and distributes fresh blood carrying vital oxygen and nutrients to the cells. Also beneficial for cardiac problems as it can lower blood pressure and strengthen the heart.
Lymphatic System - Boosts the efficiency of the lymphatic system and eliminates any toxins, waste products and fluid that have accumulated in the tissues.
Muscular System - Relieves pain and stiffness from the muscles of the face, scalp, neck, upper back & shoulders.
Skeletal System - Eases stiffness in the joints and increases mobility of the neck and shoulder area.
Hair - Increases circulation to the scalp which promotes hair growth making it stronger, shinier and healthier.
Skin - Improves circulation to the skin promoting a healthy and glowing complexion. Aids in the shedding of dead skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles giving the face a younger look.
Eyes - Relaxes and soothes the eye muscles so that eye strain is alleviated and eyes become more brighter and clearer.
Nose - Excellent for relieving nasal congestion and conditions such as sinusitis.
Jaw - Alleviates jaw problems as we tend to clench our teeth which creates a great deal of tension in the jaw area.
Psychological Benefits:
Stress & Tension - Relieves both physical & mental stress and can help with anxiety and depression promoting a sense of well-being
Improved Concentration - Increases the supply of oxygen to the brain which relieves mental fatigue and improves clarity of thought and concentration.
Energy Levels - Any energy that has become stagnant and blocked by tension is released and is allowed to be raised and to flow freely. A deep sense of peace and tranquility is induced followed by an increased flow of energy levels.
Subtle/Spiritual Benefits - Indian head massage works on our energy centres known as "Chakras" These centres are unblocked, balanced and aligned by the end of the treatment allowing balance and harmony to be restored to mind, body & spirit.
An Indian head massage usually lasts for approximately 30-40 minutes, although the treatment can be shortened to 10-15 minutes if it takes place as a part of a workplace massage.
The treatment is performed with Soya-Bean & Wheatgerm oil on a professional massage table. The client will not need to be fully undressed for this treatment but can be draped with towels to keep warm.
The client can decide if they want to be draped with towels or un-draped.

Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply and more quickly.
What Happens During a Hot Stone Massage?
Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them in Hot Stone Tank of 120 to 150 degree water. The stones themselves are Black Basalt Stones that absorbs and retains heat, and have been smoothed by natural forces in the river or sea.
You usually start face down, with the therapist working on your back. First, the therapist warms up the body with traditional Swedish Massage strokes, then massages you while holding heated stones. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. The therapist uses many stones of various shapes and sizes - big ones on the big muscles, smaller ones on smaller muscles.
The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hand, on your belly, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.
The Therapist will always ask you if the temperature and pressure is ok for you BUT you should always feel free to speak to the therapist if the stones are too warm or the pressure too much for you.
Hot Stones are a very powerful massage tool, the stones give you the ability to penetrate deeper than is possible with a human hand. One massage stroke with a stone is usually equivalent to five with the hand.
Known as a Cardio Vascular work out for the circulatory system, Hot Stone Massage works the body in a similar way to doing a two hour high impact work out in the Gym. For those not capable of exercise, a Hot Stone treatment provides them with the perfect solution, working tissues, loosening muscles, increasing blood circulation and eliminating waste products.
Hot Stone Massage is often called the 'Detox Massage' It works to clear the lymph nodes and drain the lymphatic fluid. The Lymphatic system, our waste disposal unit, has no pump, which means that any moment of inactivity can cause a build-up of lymph which needs stimulating in order to be eliminated. With the penetration of a hard stone being massaged deep into the layers of the Dermis, and the heat that comes from it, the Lymphatic System is stimulated into releasing waste material into the system.
A Hot Stone Full Body Massage uses different types of strokes that include:
Effleurage (long, gliding stokes)
Petrissage/Wringing (kneading)
Friction (cross fiber)
Traction (slight pulling of arms & legs)
Vibration/Shaking (benefits the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, lymphatic & nervous systems)
Trigger Point Tapping (to break down stubborn areas of tension and trauma. By tapping two stones together)
Treatments can last for 60 or 90 Minutes and include the whole of the body. The massage is performed with Almond Oil on a professional massage table. The client can decide if they want to be draped with towels or un-draped.
Treatment Prices:
60 minute Hot Stone Full Body Massage: £50
90 minute Hot Stone Full Body Massage: £60
Reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person's general health. For example, reflexology holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot corresponds to the bladder point. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply appropriate pressure to this area, it affects bladder functioning.
Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, cancer treatment, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, headaches, kidney function, PMS, and sinusitis.
Reflexology is growing increasingly popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure. One example is Denmark, where various municipalities and companies have employed reflexologists since the early '90s.
According to several studies, this practice in Denmark has resulted in reduced sick leave and absenteeism (and significant economic savings for the employers). Employees have consistently reported complete or partial improvement in conditions where they sought reflexologists help and even relief for additional problems related to stress. In one municipal district, almost one-third of the employees reported greater satisfaction with their jobs after completing six sessions with a reflexologist.
Where are the reflexology points and areas?
In reflexology theory, points and areas on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to specific organs, bones and body systems. Practitioners access these points on the feet and hands (bottom, sides, and top) and the ear (both inside as far as the finger can reach and outside) to affect organs and systems throughout the entire body.
Maps of reflex points have been passed between practitioners across the globe. Understandably, there is not agreement among all reflexologists on all points; however, general agreement does exist on major reflex points. Some scientific documentation of linkages between the skin and internal organs also exists.
To represent how the body systems correspond to one another, reflexologists use reflexology "maps." A good example of a reflexology map exists for the feet. Each foot represents a vertical half of the body:
The left foot corresponds to the left side of the body and all organs, valves, etc. found there.
The right foot corresponds to the right side of the body and all organs found there. For example, the liver is on the right side of the body, and therefore the corresponding reflex area is on the right foot.
A reflexologists may perform a general, integrated session, or may focus on specific problem areas on the feet, hands or ears. For example, if time is limited and the person really needs to relax, the reflexologist may choose just to work on the ears.
Whatever the specific technique, reflexology theory holds that the practitioner is working to release congestion or stress in the nervous system and balance the body's energy.

Hopi Ear Candling
Hopi Ear Candling is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilizations. Hopi Ear Candling is a completely natural therapy and originates from the Native American Hopi Indians of Northern Arizona. This popular therapy is known for its physical benefits in treating ear and sinus problems as well as other conditions.
What are Hopi Ear Candles?
Hopi Ear Candling (also known Thermal Auricular Therapy) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, it is used to offer calming benefits for many problems and conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas. The therapy is widely used by doctors in Europe and America as an alternative to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, ear syringing and grommets. A Hopi ear candle treatment is a deeply relaxing, calming and soothing experience.
How do Hopi Ear Candles work?
The process of Hopi Ear Candling involves a hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal to create a seal. The Hopi candle is then lit and then creates Heat & Suction. The gentle suction draws the impurities from the ear. This suction is often referred to as the 'Chimney' effect. A fire crackling sound may be heard and possibly some gentle popping. The rising air gently massages the ear drum and helps to regulate ear pressure. A soothing Sinus, Facial and Head massage concludes this relaxing treatment.
What are the candles made from?
Biosun ear candles are made from premium quality ingredients, including pesticide-free & untreated cotton, pure beeswax, honey extract which contains the following vitamins: B6, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid. Minerals: calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc, St Johns Wort, Sage and Camomile a herb which has anti-inflammatory and astringents properties which helps to restrict blood flow and mucous secretion and helps relive mental stress, anxiety, nervousness and excitability.
Conditions which may benefit from a Hopi Ear Candling treatment:
Tinnitus
Sinusitis
Glue Ear
Hayfever & Rhinitus
Excessive ear wax
General hearing loss

Cupping Therapy
What is Cupping Therapy?
Dry Cupping / Cupping Massage
Cupping is an ancient method of causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin using a suction pump to draw up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and localised healing takes place by promoting the circulation of blood in the area where the cup is applied.
Cupping Therapy may leave a circular mark on the body which lasts for about 4-10 days depending on the condition. The mark is very useful as a diagnostic tool - the darker the mark, the more stagnation there is in the muscles.
Cupping massage can also act as a 'hoover' or Reverse Massage allowing the tissue to be lifted upwards and changing the pressure on underlying tissues, such as skin, fat, nerves, and fascia to help restore movement. It also helps to remove stagnation and toxins which are often associated with joint and muscle pain.
What can Cupping help with?
Cupping Therapy increases blood flow and speeds up metabolism in the soft tissues which increases nutrients and cleansing toxins to promote healing through pain reduction and deep relaxation.
It can help with:
* Back, Neck & Muscle Pain, Muscle Stiffness & Sports Injuries
* Colds & Flu Symptoms
* Weight Loss
* Cellulite
* Skin Conditions Such As Eczema and Acne
* Respiratory Problems
* Sciatica
* Digestive Disorders
* Blood Detoxification
* Improves Blood Circulation
* Removes Acidic Toxins
* Activates The Lymphatic System
* Migraines
* Fatigue
* Anxiety
* Fertility
* High Blood Pressure
What happens during a cupping treatment?
After having a consultation to discuss your needs, The therapist places a cup on a specific parts of the patient's body and using the hand help pump gives 2-3 pumps thus drawing the skin into the cup. This suction causes the cups to adhere strongly, but comfortably, to the skin and unblock energy.
The cup can be placed on the body from 5-15 minutes
The skin will rise into the glass cup and will begin to redden due to the congestion of blood flow.
Dry cupping produces a low amount of pressure. The cups are better suited for use on the softer tissue so thata secure and tight seal is allowed against the skin. The skin may also be lubricated so that the cups can be moved around from one area to a larger area.
The cup is then removed from the skin by pressing the valve on the cup, allowing the air to escape and thus equalising the pressure.
Some bruising on the skin where the rim of the cup has been is to be expected.
The pulling effect created by the suction inside the cups deeply massages the muscles, eliminating knots and muscle spasms, helping the body to realign itself in a similar way to a deep tissue massage.
Does it hurt?
Cupping therapy causes mild swelling and bruising on the skin so many people assume it must be painful. This shouldn't be the case however. The marks, or 'bruises' appear because the suction causes the blood vessels on the surface of the skin to expand. The resulting marks are unlike bruises caused by blunt trauma so they shouldn't hurt. The marks can last anywhere between a day and two weeks, but usually they last a couple of days.
You may feel a tight pulling sensation as the cups are applied, but again there shouldn't be any pain. If you are feeling pain, be sure to tell your therapist so they can adjust their technique. If your skin is broken or inflamed, the therapy should be avoided as this may cause pain.
Who can have it?
Cupping therapy carries little or no risk. However, it is advisable that the following groups of people avoid it:
* Those who bleed easily and/or cannot stop bleeding
* Anyone taking Warfarin (Blood Thinner)
* Pregnant women
* Menstruating women
* Anyone with metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread from one part of the body to another)
* Anyone with muscle spasms or bone fractures.
Cupping should not be carried out on parts of the body that have the following:
* Ulcers
* An Artery
* Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
* Where A Pulse Can Be Felt.

5 - 20 minute Dry Cupping Therapy: £30
