About Us Black Dyke Band, the worlds most famous brass band, with over 150 years of rich musical history. Black Dyke is proud of its heritage but also looks to the future with enthusiasm and confidence. No other ensemble in the world of music can boast such a record of innovation and success.

New Music As part of New Music 20x12, composer Luke Carver Goss has been commissioned by the award-winning Black Dyke Band to write ‘Pure Gold: A 4x4 Relay Race', which will use the structure of a relay race. The piece will be divided into four three minute 'legs': power, speed, losing ground and finally, triumph, to tell the tale of success through team work and sporting pride. Goss will be working with poet Ian McMillan, Yorkshire Youth Brass Band and the Manchester Chorale.

There will be three performances of the new piece in the period Jan-Dec'12.

New Music 20x12 is an independent commissioning programme initiated by Jillian Barker and David Cohen, and delivered by PRS for Music Foundation in partnership with the BBC, The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and Sound and Music.

Partners Black Dyke Band are proud of their partnerships with Besson, YCE Catering Equipment Limited, Michael Rath Trombones, Majestic Percussion, SHB Hire and Dennis Wick Ltd. In addition, the band welcomes the support of many Founders, Life Patrons, Patrons and Members of the Black Dyke Band 'Friends' Society.

Building For The Future The Black Dyke Band is part of our National Heritage and during its long history has achieved an enviable reputation; with National as well as International fame. For almost 140 years Black Dyke was owned and financially supported by the textile company John Foster & Son plc of Queensbury.

In 1996 the association with the mill ceased when the Band became a registered charity; in recognition of this fact "MILLS" was dropped from the official name.

Following the formation of the Charity an appeal was launched with the dual purpose of purchasing the bandroom from John Foster & Son and to commence a refurbishment programme. The bandroom is now wholly owned by the Charity and due to the generosity of many individuals and organisations a programme of welcome improvements to the premises has been possible.

The continuing support of Friends, Patrons and Sponsors is deeply appreciated by all those connected with this world famous band. Our sincere thanks to you all.
