Business Profile

About Us... The Band was formed in the village of Hepworth, near Holmfirth, in 1882, making it one of the oldest brass bands in the country. Today, it competes in the Championship Section, making it one of the best bands in the UK.

It has had a proud contesting tradition since its founding, and in recent years, has won a string of prestigious prizes. At the same time, it runs its own concert series every year, supports local charities and other events, including the famous Hepworth Feast, and appears at other venues across the U.K. throughout the year.

The Band relies on generous donations from a number of companies, both national and local, for its continued existence. Since the beginning it has also relied heavily on subscriptions raised from local people, and this tradition continues today.

More Information... Leigh hails from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire and after earning his stripes with the local town band he came under the wing of Geoff Whitham at the Ancient Order of Foresters Band at 16 years of age.

Geoff was to continue to mentor Leigh in euphonium playing at Huddersfield Polytechnic (now University) when he studied there, majoring in performance, from 1988-92.

Leigh joined the Brighouse & Rastrick Band on euphonium in 1990, but it was on Solo Baritone that Leigh really made his mark. His illustrious playing career with Brighouse lasted 19 years and saw Leigh lift every major contest prize apart from the elusive British Open and perform throughout the UK, Europe and North America.

Town Hall brass and voices for charity
More than 100 Yorkshire male voices took to the stage at Huddersfield Town Hall on Sunday October 1 as the massed choirs of Steeton and New Mill Male Voice Choirs joined forces with the Hepworth Brass Band for a "Yorkshire Spectacular" matinée gala concert in support of Parkinson's UK with guest compere David Hoyle from BBC Radio Leeds Yorkshire Brass.

Brighouse March & Hymn Tune Contest
The Band competed at the annual Brighouse March & Hymn Tune Contest, organised by Brighouse & District Lions Club on Sunday, July 2, as 26 bands from youth to championship section marched down Bethel Street to the Town Hall Square to perform their Contest Hymn Tune and March.
