Oakes Opticians Oakes Opticians is a family owned business providing value and care since 2010 serving the local Huddersfield community and beyond.
They offer wide selection of frame choice at reasonably competitive prices and more importantly bespoke eye examinations prioritising the patient at the forefront. They have over 20 years of combined optical staff experience. They have invested in the latest technology and often provide a longer eye test appointments compared to your average high street opticians. Their opticians have regularly diagnosed and referred patients with conditions such as Glaucoma, Diabetes and Cataracts. They are the only opticians within the area to offer a late evening appointment which is a big advantage to the 9 to 5 workers and school children.

NHS Eye Care NHS funded sight tests

You are entitled to a free sight test if one of the following applies to you:

Over 60 years old
Under 16 years old
Full time student aged 16, 17 or 18
Have a valid HC2 certificate
Are registered blind/partially sighted
Suffer with diabetes or glaucoma
Are considered to be at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist (hospital eye doctor)
Are over 40 years old and have a close relative with glaucoma (parent/brother/sister or child)
Are a prisoner on leave from prison
Have been prescribed complex lenses (power of the lens over + or – 10.00)
or if you or your partner receive(s):

Income Support
Income based Jobseekers Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Pension Credit guarantee credit
Tax Credit and named on a valid NHS Tax Credit Exception Certificate (NHS white card, credit card sized)
You will normally be entitled to an eye test every two years (or every year depending on your circumstances or if advised otherwise by an optometrist or doctor). You may also be able to have an eye test sooner especially if you are having any new problems. Contrary to popular belief, this early eye test has nothing to do with your prescription changing for your glasses. The optometrist will need to record an early re-test code on your GOS1 form (blue form used to claim for an eye test).

NHS funded spectacles You may be entitled to help towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses if one of the following applies to you are:

Under 16 years of age
In full time education and aged 16, 17 or 18
